City of Ottawa : Proposals for an Improved EV Charging Infrastructure
The City of Ottawa is actively working to decrease pollution caused by public and private transportation.
In 2007, our elected representatives adopted the vehicles’ Idling Control By-law 2007-266.
In 2009, a Transportation Committee report entitled Green Municipal Fleet Plan was presented to city council. Since that report, the City of Ottawa, in partnership with Hydro Ottawa, installed a charging station at City Hall and purchased a Chevrolet Volt.
The biggest project by the city is the Light Rail Transit. This monumental initiative will have major impacts on the daily life of all citizens. This City of Ottawa’s project is developed in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation and the Federal Government.
The natural progression is to stimulate the electrification of the vehicle fleet and its infrastructure. The group Ecology Ottawa has just completed a survey with the municipal candidates of the city. This Ottawa Citizen article (have a look at the last paragraph), mentions the city could do more to encourage the use of electric vehicles.
6. Develop a City policy re: EV charging stations and solar PV at new and existing City buildings.
7. Work with Hydro Ottawa to install EV charging stations in strategic locations at City facilities.
There is an ever increasing numbers of electric vehicles on our roads. To stimulate future growth, public charging infrastructure must be increased. There are only a few public charging stations to this day in Ottawa.
To improve the network of charging infrastructure, TimeToElectrify.ca suggests accompanying you during different meetings with the future elected members of the City of Ottawa. We wish to present a complete document. We need your expertise, your propositions and your opinions. Your explanations justifying the charging infrastructure installation in every ward are important.
Here is a series of questions to stimulate our reflection. If other questions can be beneficial, please add them.
Please share your comments here on TimeToElectrify.ca to help stimulate dialogue and the exchanges of ideas.
