1st issue/solution on my Bolt EV
I’ve been driving my Bolt EV since February. I am often on the road for my work and also for TimeToElectrify.ca. I like to keep my electric vehicle as clean as possible. I usually wash it at home but in winter, I prefer Petro-Canada‘s 95 days Season Pass car wash.
Last Tuesday (December 19), I notice that the back camera isn’t working anymore. Both front and rearview cameras are still available. As I start the Bolt EV, the hatchback’s latch releases automatically. I have to get out of the vehicle, open the hatchback and close it again. Same thing happens as I stop the Bolt EV. Frustrating !
I decide to wait an extra 24 hours with a full charge, naively hoping that my Bolt EV will resolve the issue by itself. Nope !!! On my way to the dealership, the front camera is not working anymore. My main concern was that I might not be able to drive my Bolt EV during the Holidays if the issue is serious.
Myers Orléans Chevrolet dealership close to my place has a great team. The Volt/Bolt EV mechanic starts working on my Bolt EV while his colleague is already busy on a Volt. I observe the team work. Both mechanics work really well together as it is the first Bolt EV with this problem (apparently there is no GM bulletin service about this).
They both look at me and ask : ”Car wash ?” I answer that I use a touchless car wash and the jets shoot water everywhere even upwards.
They remove the ”touchpad” (that releases the hatchback’s latch) assembly.
The mechanic removes the interior panels to have access to the X902 connector.
The nylon wrapped around the cable is damp beyond the sealing section.
The solution : remove the nylon close to the connector and seal the area.
My Bolt EV is now back to normal, and shining after its daily touchless car wash !
